I was incredibly honoured when Tamarah and Jordan (some of my Dearest friends here-at least the former has made quite a few appearances on the blog) talked to me about shooting their pending birth.
These are two of my Favorite people (Tamarah and I are natural friends and Jordan is my Sbux work buddy. He's the calm in any storm.) Their request meant the world to me.
Midwife + Tamarah + Jordan + baby + me + camera. That was The Plan.
I started sleeping with my volume up on my phone (instead of its usual silent state)...though I did sleep through the 4 a.m. text Tamarah sent me today. Ooops.
That was okay as she still hadn't given birth when I woke up at 7.
Fast forward through the morning and all three hours of my Sbux shift, to a 2-hour-old text I had waiting for me from Jordan. "So this is probably going to happen at our house in the next 30 minutes. Are you free for pictures?"
I raced to their house, but I was already too late. Baby had already made an appearance.
Super woman Tamarah had to scrap her hospital birth plan at the last minute and ended up giving birth at home, sans drugs and with only a few hours of active labour. This lady is a rockstar.
She looked amazing and they invited me to come in and hang out for a bit as they got to know the baby and her family came to meet him.
I held back a hundred tears-after all, I wasn't the one who went through the hard stuff.
But I love this tiny family so and sharing so many sacred moments made for an afternoon I will never forget.
Grandpa. (**Not sure what he'll actually be called**)
Baby Fingers.
This lady is a natural.
Yawn. Be still my heart.
Oh-one last thing-Happy Birth Day Mr. Oliver Augustus. I can't wait to watch you grow day-by-day into a man as strong as your name.
xo.
