We have Hilarious convos in our marriage, pretty much every day.
One of them goes something like this:
"Hi, my name is Layne, and I'm a minimalist."
"Uh, no you're not."
"Yes, I AM!"
"I love you. Have you seen how many books you own? You're definitely not a minimalist."
"Well, I hate extraneous stuff. And I love my books. I think I'm a minimalist."
"Okay, I'm going to go watch The Office now."
...........
I do hate stuff!
I do love minimalism!
My mom even bought me the book Essentialism as my Christmas gift, which goes so far in proving how much I hate excess Stuff.
In truth, I suppose we're all about to see just how much.
Our friend Tamarah popped over one day last week and informed us that she's going to play the Minimalist Game and asked if we wanted to join her.
Uh, YES. Yes, I do. From the self-proclaimed Queenie of Minimalism, count me in.
So here's the deal:
We get rid of one item today, two items tomorrow, three items on the third (and so forth) until the end of the month. The person who can keep going the longest, wins. Want to play with me?
My mom, sister and I are all fairly intelligent people but we sat around for ten minutes straight one afternoon attempting to add up how many items total this would equal and kept getting different numbers.
That aside, we finally decreed it was somewhere around the 465 mark. This does feel a bit overwhelming considering we moved from our 1-bedroom apartment back in July and got rid of a TON of stuff back then. But I'm optimistic- I'm a minimalist, remember.
Here is our day #1.
