We were recently invited to lead a small team to Papua New Guinea in February and (after the initial shock wore off), we've grown excited about this unexpected opportunity.
YWAM has been invited by the PNG government to send medical and educational resources to the island. Our main vision for the trip would be gathering stories with photo and video to mobilize more medical and educational teams to work in Papua New Guinea. To give you a gauge, there are something like 32 dentists in PNG for a population of 7 million people.
In the last few years, we have gone on several "missions" trips and have happily worked to cover all our costs. Since we just found out about this trip in last two weeks (and as it's a strictly volunteer trip), we need to raise $4800 USD in order to cover our flights, food, housing and miscellaneous travel costs.
Insert Big Eyes here.
A further breakdown of finances for our 10-day trip looks something like this:
Flight costs: $1600 USD x 2 = $3200
Housing/Food: $500
Immunizations: $500ish (we don't yet have the final quote on this but we have a long list of pills and shots we need to take.)
Portable printer: $300 + extra paper/ink (canon or polaroid) This is to be able to gift families photos of themselves as we travel throughout villages of people that may not yet have a photo of themselves.
Hiking Backpack: $100 USD
Sleeping bags: $100 USD
Miscellaneous: $100
