Four years ago today Catherine and Anne helped me throw a "casual birthday picnic" on the beach for this guy named Jonathan that I had a pretty big crush on...well, a pretty big crush Most Days. (Unless we were playing ultimate frisbee...but that's a story for another day.)
It's beautifully ironic, then, that we are now married and flying back to Kona today, on Jonathan's 30th birthday.
I had visions of another birthday beach picnic, but Jonathan seems to think he'll want to sleep after 18 hours of traveling. Hmmm.
We did get an upgrade for our middle flight, so at least Jono can spend 2 hours of his special day being pampered.
(Lucas-if you can get your dad to work on another upgrade from SFO to KOA we'd grateful appreciate it. Hehe.)
This morning as Shirley drove us to the airport we debated whether we'd be friends if Jonathan had been a girl as Shirley thought. We didn't come to a striking affirmative on this subject, but let's just say I'm glad he's HIM.
I have spent much time debating on just how mushy I would be in today's entry. But Jonathan is a simple man-the mushy stuff is just too much for his constitution most days.
So I'll keep it short-I'm so grateful to know this amazing man and to wake up beside him every single day. I learn so much from him-in everything from grace to photography.
He's the Best. (Said "Nacho Libre" style, in honor of JJG.)
So Happy Birthday dear Jonathan and happy Saturday to the rest of you.
xo.
