He has a little girl. I have a little boy. It was kinda perfect from the start. The first time I saw him, I blatantly checked him out, only to learn that he was taken. And that was that...for four years at least.
One day, he showed up at my church. I whispered to my best friend, "Is that Scott??" This time, we were both single, but our hearts had a lot of healing to do because life had done its thing to both of us. We would talk, start to have feelings for each other, and then stop talking again because we didn't want to jump into anything prematurely. This happened a few times, but eventually, we couldn't stay away from each other. Our kids grew to love each other almost as quickly as we did.
On New Years Eve of 2013, I offered him some candy. He responded with the most heartfelt "I love you" I had ever heard. We tried to be subtle about our relationship for a while since we shared so many friends, but we were a thing, and you just can't really stop things.
We were out for dinner for our first anniversary when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Me being me, I blurted, "Holy shit!" as a bunch of excited gawkers squealed and pointed.
The thing is, he is mine and I am as his. Our little family brings us the type of happiness that you don't even realize exists until it swallows you up and takes your breath away. The beginning of our forever will be May 30th, 2015.
Three Quirky Facts:
It was a discussion about our favourite types of cheeses that made us simultaneously realize the other was "the one."
Because we have kids, we have had to figure out how to grow our relationship through every day things. One of our favourite things to do is just cook together.
We are only 5 years apart, but we look like we could be 10 years apart. Scott's beard is starting to gather some white hair, and I secretly can't wait for all the awkward moments ahead when people will think he's my dad!
Favourite photo:
I spent 10 days away from Scott and the kids when I was flown to Hawaii to help at an international community development conference. This was a candid picture from the night I got back. I was covered in travel gunk and still had ocean salt in my hair, but the cuddles were perfect. My roommate snapped this simple picture on my phone.
