From our heart to yours.
For you American readers who won't know this, today is Family Day up here in Ontario.
If you know us well, you know that family is hugely important to us. We are extremely grateful for everything our parents/aunts/uncles have given us and we love our sisters. Layne is particularly close to her sister Catherine.
That being said, recently when we did our adoption class, we had to define family.
One of the things we came up with was "people who do life together."
We know that sometimes family is more than blood, more than the people with whom we share our DNA.
Our family are those people who walk with us, pray with us, care for us, and let us care for them too.
When I was growing up I learned "Blood is thicker than water." And I get it!
My sister can never get rid of me, no matter how annoyed she may be. Thank goodness.
But we will forever be grateful for those people, that family we have, that choose us. People who fight for our good, see our mess, and love us anyway. (You know who are you. You may even get this email in your inbox tomorrow morning.)
So here's to family-and all that entails.
Happy Family Day!
