"I’m becky! A blonde, ex-theology student, florist, wife, sister, daughter, and human being.
In September of last year I married a Canadian man far too adventurous for me. While his eyes light up at the sound of a spontaneous trip to outer-Mongolia, I start making (what can only be described as) excited squeaky noises when I see the first blossom tree of spring, or a baby in a puffy coat that looks like a marshmallow, or a heavy rain shower that makes the green grass pop with colour.
I’ve often found that the most simple, little things in life, when I take the time to acknowledge and appreciate them, have a powerful and uplifting affect on my mood. My husband might not carry quite the same level of appreciation for marshmallow-look-a-like babies as myself, and that’s totally allowed, but I am convinced that there are many people and personalities in our world whose well-beings might benefit from a heightened appreciation of the ‘simple’.
Where am I going with this?! Well, I suppose a combination of the all-too-adventurousness of my husband, pared with my excited squeaks, certainly contributed to sweetbeeprints.com becoming a reality. I think I was born with creative genes, and with eyes to see the beauty of a moment, but until I got married, I didn’t really know how to do ‘big-picture’, or ‘business-plan’. I had a couple of water-colour paintings on postcards, lots of lovely pens, and plenty of enthusiasm, but no means with which to share these things with anyone else. Until now!
The Sweet bee prints postcards, I hope, represent simplicity and cuteness. And I stand for those things boldly- hoping to capture others in moments of excited squeaks, and ‘ohhh, that’s so cute!’. I think it could be easy to categorize the above as being too child-like, or unworthy of our valuable time or money. But, I’m fairly determined, as a young woman who’s endured her fair share in the completely un-cute, messy struggles of life, that I’m not the only one refreshed and renewed by time spent in the company of simple, beautiful things.
So do take a little look at my postcards and designs! Stick them up on your walls. Put them on your fridge. Use them to write notes to people you really like, or people you don’t know. Allow them to remind you of fun and cute things. Write and scribble on them a list of the simple, little things you like the most. Use them as bookmarks. Use them to make mini paper airplanes.
I’ll be expanding the website in the months ahead, hoping to make larger prints and different postcard designs available. Let me know what you think.
