We met over 5 years ago at the rehab center in Rochester where Ashley was/is a Physical Therapist. Jerremy was on the rehabilitation unit for 7 months after a diving accident which left him paralyzed and quadriplegic. Disclaimer: Ashley was not his therapist! After becoming friends during his rehab stay, the friendship quickly turned into more after he was discharged to the community. The first few years were rough. Jerremy needed to cope with the tremendous loss of much of his physical function and reconfigure his life path. We made it through that very difficult time so much stronger as a result of that challenge. Both of us have grown in ways we never thought possible and make each other better each day.
As for our wedding, we have friends coming in for the event from all over the US, the UK, and even Australia and want to make sure that our celebration is a special and memorable one.
Here are our 3 quirky facts:
1. Ashley was a vegetarian before she met Jerremy and now steak is one of her her favorite foods. The "gateway meat" with which Jerremy convinced Ashley to enter the carnivorous side was ham steak.
2. Jerremy was not a dog person before moving in with Ashley. Now he is regularly found snuggling with Shea (10 year old, 70 pound rescued mutt), sneaking him special treats, and making up Shea themed songs.
3. Jerremy's nickname is Pup. When we were vacationing in Charleston, a little girl came out of her car with a small dog in her arms and was startled by us on the sidewalk. She immediately looked at Jerremy and yelled out in surprise "OH HI PUPPY!!!" and since then this has been his "pet" name.
